A weekend of several distances: from the vertical to the ultra

The Alpenplus Ötzi Trailrun takes place in Naturns, South Tyrol, with a multi-distance programme. The 4.2 km vertical with 760 metres of climbing opens the event on 8 April at 18:00, two days before the other races. The trail races start on 9 April: the 15 km Skyrace with 1,150 metres, the 30 km Sunny Mountain Trail with 2,100 metres and the 45 km Ötzi-Ultra Trail with 3,400 metres, the new addition for 2027. There are also the 8 km Just for Fun and Junior runs with 400 metres, and a Kids Run with courses by age group. Climbing per kilometre matters more than distance: 3,400 metres over 45 km is about 75 metres of climbing per kilometre, nearly double the Skyrace. To choose the right race, compare the climbing per kilometre with the outings you can do in training, not the distance alone.

Tips for this race

  • The vertical is on 8 April at 18:00, two days before the other races: if you want to take part in more than one event, plan the weekend from Thursday.
  • The number of participants is limited and entries close in early April: sign up as soon as they open, rather than waiting until the last moment.
  • For the 3,400 m ultra, train the climbing with long hill outings: the metres of ascent weigh more than flat kilometres.
