The Velunite newsroom

Velunite is the free platform for cyclists and runners: routes with GPX, group rides, segment leaderboards and a community. The newsroom runs the blog, the guides, the 2027 race calendar and the Velunite Journal, the Monday report on professional road and mountain bike racing. This page describes our method: who writes, how we select and check sources, how we correct mistakes and how we are funded.

What we cover

We publish cycling and running content, from road to gravel and mountain biking, from road running to trail, made for people who actually ride and run.

Who writes and how we work

The articles on Velunite and in the Journal are signed by the editorial team, which answers for what it publishes and for the editorial line.

We are cyclists and runners before we are journalists: we combine hands-on experience with a method for checking sources. Opinions are presented as opinions and kept apart from facts; in the Journal readers can reply in the comments.

How we choose and check sources

For sports results we start from primary sources: the websites of organizers, the UCI and the teams, then Wikipedia and the sports press to compare the data. We look for at least two independent sources for every result we cite.

If a fact is not confirmed, we do not publish it. We do not invent quotes, times or standings, and we do not copy sentences from our sources: we rewrite in our own words and, where useful, say where the information comes from.

In practical articles (training, equipment, routes) we do not give medical advice: we talk about experience and common sense and, for anything health-related, we point you to a doctor.

Images

We only use freely licensed photos, mainly from Wikimedia Commons, or our own generic covers. Under every photo we credit the author, the license and the source. If the picture is not from the event we are writing about, the caption says it is an archive photo.

Corrections

Mistakes happen, even with the greatest care. If you spot an error (a result, a name, a date, a photo credit) write to info@velunite.it with the article and, if you can, a source. We check it and, if you are right, we fix the text as soon as possible.

When a correction changes the meaning of an important passage, we flag it in the article and update the modification date. If a photo or other content infringes someone's rights, we remove it on request.

Advertising, affiliate links and sponsors

Velunite is free for its users and is funded in three ways: advertising, affiliate links (for example Amazon and other shops) and sponsors, who have a dedicated space on the site, sometimes with discount codes. So there are always ads on the site, shown only if you accept marketing cookies.

Anything paid is recognisable: ads carry the label "Ad", sponsor banners say "Sponsored by", and boxes with affiliate links carry a note explaining that if you buy or book through them Velunite receives a small commission at no extra cost to you. All affiliate links are also marked as sponsored for search engines (rel "sponsored"). Prices shown are indicative and may change: the shop's own site is what counts.

Sponsors and advertisers do not see, approve or edit our articles, and they do not decide what we cover or what we write about a race, a rider or a product: our judgement of products stays ours, even when there is an affiliate link. If an article is sponsored, we say so at the very top, before the text.

Publishing schedule

The Velunite Journal normally comes out every Monday, with a report on the weekend's road and mountain bike races. When the weekend has no relevant racing we publish a special and say so. Other blog articles come out without a fixed schedule, following the calendar of seasons and races.

Comments and contact

You can comment under Journal articles. We remove spam, insults and unlawful content; opinions that differ from ours are welcome when expressed respectfully.
