Mount Grappa from Possagno (Salto della Cabra)
Created by Velunite ·
21 km from Possagno to 1775 m at Cima Grappa via Cavaso del Tomba's Salto della Cabra: the most epic side of the Sacred Mountain, with wooded hairpins, Great War tunnels and views from the plains to the Dolomites. Giro stage and pilgrimage to the war memorial. Long and hot in summer: start early, bring two bottles.

Monte Grappa is the favourite climb of riders in north-east Italy: there are many sides, all different, and the summit hosts the Great War military memorial with views over the plain and the Pre-Alps.
What the climb is like
You can climb Grappa from several roads: from Romano d'Ezzelino the climb is regular and suits riders seeking a steady rhythm, while other sides (such as Semonzo or Alano di Piave) have steeper gradients or tougher sections.
The summit is at roughly 1,750 metres, where wind and weather can change quickly. The memorial and the open-air museum deserve a stop.
Practical tips
Even on clear days bring a windproof jacket: the summit is often windy and about ten degrees colder than the plain. The roads are shared with motorbikes and cars at weekends.
