Where to run and cycle in Naples
Naples has one of Italy's most beautiful seafronts for running and, for cyclists, Vesuvius, the Phlegraean Fields and the coastal roads close by.
Where to run in Naples
Lungomare Caracciolo
Pedestrianised and overlooking the bay, from Mergellina to Castel dell'Ovo: the signature route of Neapolitan runners.
Bosco di Capodimonte
A large hillside park with tree-lined avenues: sheltered from traffic and cool even in summer.
Parco Virgiliano
At the top of Posillipo, with views over the bay. Running up there is already a good hill workout.
Bike rides from Naples
Vesuvius
The climb to the volcano from Ercolano: long, steady and spectacular. A classic for anyone wanting to train climbing.
Posillipo and the Phlegraean Fields
From Posillipo towards Pozzuoli, Bacoli and Lake Fusaro: constant ups and downs with sea views.
Chiunzi pass and the Coast
For long rides: from the Chiunzi pass towards the Amalfi Coast, among the most beautiful roads in Italy.
Practical tips
City traffic is demanding: for bike rides set off at dawn, especially at weekends. In summer run along the seafront very early in the morning.
